MASTER EARTHDOG JUDGE
Michael Pitisci

I have had standard smooth dachshunds pretty much my whole life. My first smooth as an adult started out as a companion dog but things went in a very unexpected direction. I learned a lot about AKC events from that dog. She was successful in everything we tried and titled in Field Trials, Earthdog, Conformation, Obedience and Rally. The generations that have followed have been equally successful in the various events. Most are dual champions, several have earned earthdog titles with a couple of them completing their master titles and meeting the Dachshund Club of America’s versatility certificate requirements.
I am a Dachshund field trial judge as well as an earthdog judge through the master level classes. When time permits, I have held earthdog training and practice sessions at my home for people looking to introduce their dog to earthdog or to work through problems they are having at trials. This has given me the opportunity to work with other dachshunds from other breeding programs as well as many of the eligible terrier breeds. I have learned a lot about different working styles of the different breeds during these training sessions.
Recently I have had the opportunity to work with a good friend’s Border Terrier in the conformation ring, giving me an added appreciation for the breed. I am looking forward to judging the Master entries at the 2021 Border Terrier Club of America National Specialty
SENIOR EARTHDOG JUDGE
Judy Todd
I was born and raised in New England. I got my very first, very own Border Terrier in 1963 in Connecticut from Henry Mosle. She was the daughter of the first Border Terrier that I had ever seen in the flesh and I was hooked on the breed.
After a 30 year career as a Veterinary Technician, I am now retired and have the time to expand my activities with my dogs in more performance sports. In addition to the conformation Championships, they have titles in Earthdog, Rally-Obedience, Agility , Coursing, Fast CAT, Trick Dog, Temperament Test and Scent Work. I am most proud of the three Working Certificates and the Hunting Certificate that we have earned. We are still active in conformation, AWTA den trials, AKC Earthdog tests, agility trials, rally obedience trials, TDI therapy dog visits and Scent Work and, as always, hunting.
I have been an AKC Earthdog judge since 1966 and an AWTA Go To Ground judge since 2006, adding Canada Kennel Club earth dog judging as well.
JUNIOR EARTHDOG JUDGE
Richard Reynolds

Richard Reynolds has had a lifelong passion for dogs in general and hounds and terriers in particular. He has been a breeder/exhibitor of Beagles, English Foxhounds, Norfolk Terriers, Jack Russelll Terriers, Smooth Fox Terriers, Dachshunds and Jag terriers. He’s proud to have been an AKC licensed professional handler and is also a former Master of Foxhounds. Since 1981 he has been an AKC approved conformation judge of hounds and terriers and has judged in China, Canada, Korea, Australia, New Zealand other foreign countries. Reynolds is currently the AKC delegate from the Garden State All Terrier Club and President of Saw Mill River Kennel Club..
As a Master of Foxhounds Richard worked his JRTs with the pack and awarded Certificates of Gameness to worthy terriers at the hunt’s den trials. He has continued to actively hunt terriers in the field on a regular basis and is approved as an earthdog judge by both AWTA and AKC. Reynolds is known internationally from his R.A.T.S. pack which promotes working terriers through traditional rodent control in the City of New York.
Having missed a similar assignment as BTCA in 2019 due to an accident, Richard is most appreciative of the opportunity to see his many friends and the great dogs in the club.
INTRO TO QUARRY JUDGE
Carol Soeldner

We've always had a dog and when our terrier mix died in Jan. 2002, my Mum said she really missed him and wanted another dog. The gods led us to Border Terrier rescue and Trixie. We adopted her in March 2002 (she was just 5 years old and we were her 3rd home).
In the fall of 2002 Trixie & I went to watch an earthdog test, we were talked into entering IQ. Neither of us had any idea what we were doing, but we were bitten by the ED bug and the rest is history. We both continued to improve, I got more interested in observing how all the different dogs worked and got involved in helping at trainings, etc. which lead in 2008 to my attending a judges' seminar, taking the test and start apprenticing. I am now approved to judge through the ME level and continue to unofficially apprentice at all levels as opportunities are available.
Trixie did earn her SE, but had to stop due to worsening arthritis in her back. Banjo came along, but he had no interest in earthdog (he loved tracking); Buzz loved ED and earned his ME; Fox has her ME; Chirp has his SE and Sponge & Buttz have yet to be introduced to ED. We all continue to be a work in progress.
Thank you for the opportunity to judge at our National Specialty.
