SWEEPSTAKES JUDGE
Debbie Lawton
Lily, our first border terrier, joined our family in 1997; I soon knew there would be no return to life without border terriers. When Lily earned her championship title out of the bred-by class, my husband Kevin and I, along with our friends and fellow border owners Barbara Wood and Michele Emond, established a small breeding program using the kennel name of Kevrah. I continued in the conformation ring with our puppies, and have entered competitions from flyball to nosework trials. Other Kevrah bred borders who lived with Barbara and Michele also exhibited in conformation and earned titles in several performance activities including BTCA Versatility titles. We have been thrilled when our dogs were recognized with top ribbons at BTCA national specialties, at supported entry shows and at Montgomery County Kennel Club.
I have been honored to judge the puppy and veteran sweepstakes for the Border Terrier Club of the Redwoods, the Northeast Border Terrier Club and the New England Terrier Club. These experiences and the encouragement of mentors sparked my current interest in working toward an AKC judging license.
I am a member of the BTCA, the Northeast Border Terrier Club, the Greater Boston Area Earthdog Club, and the New England Terrier Club. Currently, I am chairperson of the scholarship committee of the BTCA Health and Scholarship Foundation. Kevin and I share our home now with five wonderful borders terriers ranging in age from 3 to 13 and with the memories of those who have left their marks on our hearts. I sincerely appreciate and thank the membership who nominated and chose me as Sweepstakes Judge this year. I am looking forward to meeting your pups and veterans!

4-6 MONTH PUPPY CONFORMATION JUDGE
Laurale Stern

Thank you for your invitation to judge the 4-6 month puppy competition.

My husband, John, and I adopted our first border terrier, Chauncey, in 1980 and joined the BTCA in 1981. I have been involved in breeding, conformation, obedience, rally, earthdog, barn hunt and therapy with my dogs over the years. I have bred over 80 border terrier puppies and earned many titles over the years. My greatest love is obedience where I have earned 4 AKC UDs as well as another 2 CDs and a CDX. Therapy has also been of interest. Caby, my 4 year old BT, is a therapy dog who visits people in hospice. Over the years I have been active in the BTCA as a board member, secretary and president of the club. I have also served on several committees including the BORDERLINE staff, judge's education, nominating and presently the Specialty Liaison Committee. I am an AKC rally and non-regular obedience judge as well as a conformation judge for border terriers. I have chaired and/or co-chaired several BTCA national specialties and have been on the committee for several others. My greatest honor was to judge the 2018 BTCA National Specialty in Greeley, CO. Even more important to me has been meeting people from all over the world who share my interest and love of the border terrier and making lifelong friendships.
Closer to home I am involved with my local kennel club, the Manitowoc County Kennel Club and have served as a board member and secretary as well as show co-chair, match chair, and am an active obedience/rally/therapy dog trainer in the club. Aside from my dogs, I am married for 42 years to my husband, John. We have two daughters and four beautiful grandchildren who are the loves of our lives. My other hobbies include crocheting, walking, reading, cooking and journal-writing. I am honored to be asked to judge the first ever 4-6 month puppy class competition at this year's specialty.
CONFORMATION JUDGE
Elspeth Jackson

Border Terriers have always been a big part of my life, I was brought up with Border Terriers bred & owned by my parents Jean & Frank Jackson founders of the Clipstone Kennel. From a young age I showed a keen interest in their hobby and in learning all they had to teach about Border Terriers.
In the 1980's I moved from showing mostly in the junior handling classes to exhibiting in the breed. I was very proud when my parents gave me a share in the Clipstone affix and I continue to breed and show in partnership with my Mother. To date I have owned and handled 7 Border Terriers to the title of Champion in the UK, including Ch Rossula Magic Borderer Clipstone who won Best in Breed at Crufts in 2009 at the age of 8.
I have been awarding Challenge Certificates in Border Terriers in the UK since the 1990's and judged the breed at Crufts in 2015.

Pee Wee Junior Showmanship
The BTCA 2019 National Specialty will offer Pee Wee Showmanship. The entry is FREE. A ribbon and toy will be given to each Pee Wee unit. Each Pee Wee unit consists of the child, his/her parent/guardian/responsible adult, and the dog. Only one Pee Wee unit is permitted in the ring at a time. This is not a competitive class, but rather a fun, learning experience for the child and the adult.
The Pee Wee class is geared toward children 5-9 years of age. Safety is a primary concern. A dog must b a border terrier of at least four months of age to enter the Pee Wee class. Bitches in season will not be allowed to participate. If pre-entered, a dog may be substituted that meets the eligibility requirements as specified by the club. All dogs entered must have the proper lead and collar. A responsible adult must be present with the child both inside and outside the ring. The adult is to maintain control of the dog outside the ring.
