I became interested in Obedience with my first dog, a Golden Retriever, in 1987. I met Laurale Stern through the Manitowoc Kennel club and fell in love with her Border Terriers. I was privileged to have her trust me with a male in 1989 who we named “Max.” He excelled in obedience and the conformation ring. We earned a UD and I showed him to his CH, earning a group 1st from the classes in only our second show. I have since put obedience and or rally titles or on all my Borders. I have also titled in Earthdog, Agility, Therapy work, CGC, Trick dog and Farm dog. Needless to say, I love working with this breed. I am starting Scentwork also. I became a Rally judge when the sport was in its infancy and am thrilled to see how it has grown. I have been able to exhibit in the Masters Class and find it a welcome challenge. I love the sport of Rally and am thrilled to be able to judge Rally for my Breed Specialty. I’m humbled by this opportunity.

For the past 50 years, Obedience training and showing have been a very important part of my life. And, it all began with a family dog, a Labrador Retriever with a very high energy level and a keen sense of humor! Working together we were able to achieve a CD, CDX and UD, as well as a Tracking title. It is only fair to admit that I learned much more from that one dog than he learned from me!

Since that time, I have trained seven different breeds, each with their own set of challenges. And, each of them was a family dog. Needless to say their Obedience achievements simply added to the enjoyment of owning them. Lately, my focus has been on the training of Border Collies and with this breed I have enjoyed earning the OTCH title on two of them, as well as several 200 scores!!

Two years ago, I had the unexpected pleasure of adding a very small and enthusiastic Border Terrier to our pack! Frankie as she is known, has won the hearts of the entire family and has demonstrated great skill in keeping those Border Collies in line at all times! Many thanks to Kathy Henning for this outstanding dog!

It was in 1976 that I received judging approval from the AKC and have been fortunate to continue in this capacity for so many years. Obedience is a sport that has undergone numerous changes, and I believe that most of them have improved the level of competition and sportsmanship that we are currently enjoying.
